BATTLE REPORT·WHITE DWARF 308

Tunnels of Terror: Shelob’s Lair

August 2005·pp. 100–109

THE SHORT VERSION

Devin McKenzie hunts John Thissel’s escaping Orcs across Rick Smith’s branching underground board. Shelob can move through the walls and gains courage in her own lair, but the Orcs split into groups and find the webs easier to remove than expected. The report follows successive turns as the spider stalks isolated warriors and tries to intercept the captain’s route to freedom.

Shelob kills several Orcs, yet her prey wounds her and exploits the cramped exits. The captain’s Might becomes decisive in cutting webs, passing courage and forcing the spider back. Enough Orcs eventually reach safety to win, illustrating how the scenario’s escape objective and priority rolls can outweigh the monster’s obvious combat advantages.
