MODELLING·WHITE DWARF 308

Constructing Capillary Towers

August 2005·pp. 80–81

THE SHORT VERSION

Dominic Murray cuts a tapered polystyrene triangle into sections and offsets them into a leaning, segmented tower. Sculpted lips and a second front piece create chitin plates; a PVA-and-talc mixture adds organic texture, with thicker glue filling the gaps as slime. A bevelled base and filler make it appear to erupt from the ground. Purple-grey armour and pale flesh match Leviathan, while browns and static grass finish the surrounding earth.
