Painting the Head: Face and Hair
October 2010·p. 76
THE SHORT VERSION
Darren Latham preserves the sharp definition of Althran’s pale face with deep shading around the eyes and nose, then builds light flesh highlights and subtle red-blue glazes. The blond hair begins with leather and desert tones rather than bright yellow, receives sepia and brown washes, and finishes with bone and white strands. Both processes avoid hard black borders that would make the delicate complexion look artificial.
