Painting the Cloak

November 2008·p. 97

THE SHORT VERSION

The cloak’s inner blue-grey surface is blended towards bone and white before Joe adds a repeating freehand design. He keeps a pot of the original mixture for corrections and sharpens the pattern with both foreground and background colours. The outer red cloth is shaded black, then rebuilt through red layers with a warm pale final accent. Planning and patient correction are presented as part of the technique, even for an expert.
