Modelling Mud

November 2005·p. 143

THE SHORT VERSION

Owen Rees mixes flock, coarse turf, modelling debris and sharp sand with an equal amount of PVA. An old brush applies the mixture around wheels, tracks and legs, creating the heavy dirt appropriate to his swamp-world Tahnelians. Graveyard Earth colours the dried texture, and Gloss Varnish marks wet patches. The short complete recipe gives vehicles an environmental history without requiring specialized texture products.
