Balin and the Dwarves of Moria

November 2005·pp. 68–69

THE SHORT VERSION

Balin receives his own profile and optional Durin’s Axe, which combines a wounding bonus with a fight reroll without the ordinary two-handed penalty. Generic captains can represent named members of the expedition, while Warriors choose bows, shields or two-handed axes. Khazâd Guard protect a nominated hero and automatically pass courage until he dies or leaves. The notes explain equipment interactions so the profiles work beyond the introductory scenarios.

A Shadow in the East

Adam Troke describes a region-focused supplement set around Rhûn rather than another retelling of a film. A Gondorian campaign against Easterlings and Khand will escalate through linked scenarios, with an appendix connecting the armies to wider history. Perry concepts and new plastic bowmen and cavalry expand the range, while Khamûl supplies a named Ringwraith and Good heroes ensure the book is not confined to Evil forces.

The Path of the Righteous

Righteous Zeal now rewards a passed morale check after even one infantry casualty, replacing the earlier incentive to fail. Its movement is reduced, but large squads can benefit without first losing many warriors. Chaplains direct that zeal and commanders improve the chance of passing, making HQ selection a tactical decision. The discussion also relates transport choices and absent artillery to the chapter’s preference for facing its enemies directly.
