BATTLE REPORT·WHITE DWARF 306

Ride to Ruin

June 2005·pp. 98–109

THE SHORT VERSION

Nick Kyme and Greg MacGregor combine their expanded Gondor and Dol Amroth Battle Companies against Christian Byrne’s Isengard and Paul Rudge’s Harad, each player contributing roughly 500 points. The Good side finds the hidden relic early and escorts it toward the enemy edge while Boromir and Imrahil delay pursuit. Saruman repeatedly immobilises the heroes, the Mûmak tramples the King of the Dead and concentrated archery neutralises the Avenger Bolt Thrower.

Despite severe losses, Imrahil kills Saruman and Boromir defeats Lurtz. When the Good force breaks, Boromir’s final Heroic Move lets Imrahil bring the relic carrier within Stand Fast range and complete the escape. The players identify their opponents’ fear of the heroes, formed in a rehearsal game, as a reason the Mûmak stayed away from the decisive flank. Tactical sidebars examine the heroes, Saruman’s Palantir and the vulnerable artillery crew.
