Index Astartes: Knowledge Is Power
May 2005·pp. 84–89
THE SHORT VERSION
Graham McNeill describes a Chapter whose earliest history is missing and whose pursuit of knowledge centres on the example of Azariah Vidya. His apparent prescience saves the Blood Ravens from carefully concealed Chaos traps, establishing research and unusually influential Librarians as foundations of their military culture.
A fleet-based archive, extensive psychic screening and the retrieval of dangerous artefacts make the Chapter effective but invite scrutiny from other Imperial authorities. Speculation about its gene-seed remains unresolved, and Gabriel Angelos’s destruction of his own recruiting world supplies a troubling example of the secrets preserved beneath its heroic record.
