Gabriel Angelos returns to Cyrene, a technologically uneven recruiting world with a troubling incidence of mutation and newly appearing psykers. He interrupts the Blood Trials and sends a secret message, after which Imperial fleets destroy the planet; sealed records leave the reason known only to Angelos and the Inquisition, preserving ambiguity rather than a public explanation.
