The Battle for Minas Tirith
November 2003·pp. 116–126
THE SHORT VERSION
Matthew Ward’s defenders face Alessio Cavatore’s more numerous Orcs and Easterlings in the streets of the White City. Gandalf’s duel with the Witch-king becomes the dramatic centre of the game, but it also absorbs troops who might have reduced the enemy’s numbers. Even banishing the Ringwraith does not rescue Gondor: pressure on the flanks and attrition among the Fountain Court Guard eventually break the defence. The final discussion returns to the mission’s casualty objective and the cost of concentrating too heavily on an enemy character.
