Making a Barrow
September 2003·pp. 120–123
THE SHORT VERSION
Mark Jones researches ancient burial mounds before building a terrain piece for Fog on the Barrow-downs. Foamboard foundations and shaped polystyrene walls create the chamber, while a removable roof keeps the interior usable during a game. Real slate forms the doorway and optional inner lining, with an MDF base supporting the structure. Earth colours, weathered grey stones and green staining finish a model whose historical inspiration also solves practical tabletop access problems.
