The Golden Throne

December 2025·pp. 108–113

THE SHORT VERSION

This lore feature examines the Golden Throne through the limited and conflicting knowledge available inside the Imperium. Its origins and original function remain secret, but its present importance is unquestioned: the Emperor’s existence, psychic protection and the demands associated with the Astronomican bind it to humanity’s survival. The account also describes the Black Ships’ supply of psykers and the competing religious interpretations of their sacrifice.

The focus then moves to the enormous, densely mechanised Sanctum Imperialis and its three-hundred-strong Custodian guard. Repairs have failed to arrest the Throne’s decline, creating a crisis dangerous enough to conceal from the wider Imperium. An in-world report of a missing expedition to the lost forge world of Morvane illustrates how desperately the guardians seek knowledge capable of preserving it.
