Space Marine Operations: Designer’s Notes
October 2025·pp. 36–37
THE SHORT VERSION
Duncan and Sophie explain how alternating activations, defensive reactions, executions and changing enemy waves were used to capture the responsive feel of Space Marine 2 in a turn-based game. Their aim is a quick cooperative experience whose tactical problems vary with the mission, class combination and enemy activation order.
The discussion develops practical pairings: a Sniper can exploit concealment while an Assault Marine draws the swarm away, and a Vanguard’s risky grapnel attacks benefit from Tactical support that reduces cooldowns. These examples show how manipulating enemy movement and sharing class strengths can be more effective than treating each Marine as an independent fighter.
