MODELLING·WHITE DWARF 515

Spires of the Gnaw

August 2025·pp. 92–97

THE SHORT VERSION

Ash and Daniel explain how the Warhammer World exhibition team built Hexeneste as a towering vertical diorama: a Skaven metropolis erupting from a chasm while Stormcast Eternals fight through its structures. Cardboard planning, resin-cast wooden textures, adapted scenery and real chains produce architecture that looks simultaneously industrial, substantial and dangerously improvised.

Small scenes reveal warped experiments and clashes selected around particular model poses. The painters describe simple drybrushed timber, varied Contrast-painted Clanrats and a green glow around the foundations; frosted resin and internal LEDs make the warpstone itself appear to emit light.
