The Trials of Albarak: A Debt of Honour
August 2025·pp. 98–107
THE SHORT VERSION
Albarak’s recovered runespear becomes the focus of a dispute between the Frostfang duardin and the Lofnir Fyreslayers. When a former ally claims the weapon and threatens Erinbrok with a lava assault, Albarak tries to settle the matter through a personal challenge rather than allow another ruinous war between kin.
His own king’s pride creates the deeper danger: Mazur orders a dishonourable killing and holds Albarak’s family hostage to force compliance. Albarak’s refusal leads to a fatal confrontation and an unexpected kingship, while the lore-speaker’s framing story warns that this apparent resolution will not spare him a final tragedy.
