This historical account follows the Emperor’s enhanced warriors from the unstable Thunder Warriors to the twenty original Space Marine Legions. It explains gene-seed, surgical transformation and psychological conditioning, and describes how early common structures gave way to the cultures and military preferences of the rediscovered Primarchs.

Expansion during the Great Crusade demanded more recruits and faster production, putting pressure on genetic stability and training. The article connects those compromises and the growing separation between Legion identities with the rivalries and vulnerabilities that later contributed to the Horus Heresy.
