Jervis Johnson: Tournament Composition
November 2012·pp. 58–59
THE SHORT VERSION
Jervis argues that tournament composition restrictions are one form of house rules and can be worthwhile when suited to a particular event. He recalls using set limits to make unfamiliar opponents’ games faster and more manageable, while recognising the appeal of unrestricted collecting. His objection is to treating either approach as universally correct: varied tournaments, terrain and scenarios let players choose the experiences they enjoy, with Astronomi-con offered as a favourite example of creative event design.
