Gretchin Skin

September 2010·p. 78

THE SHORT VERSION

Mark Holmes creates the studio’s yellow-green Gretchin complexion by layering thin paint over a darker green foundation. Repeated green washes reinforce the recesses before the raised surfaces are rebuilt and highlighted with increasing Bleached Bone. He stresses smooth transitions and lively colour rather than treating skin as a single flat block of green.
