THE SHORT VERSION

Small swarms, monstrous creatures and Warrior-sized specialists each attract different weapons and solve different battlefield problems. Robin recommends a mixture so the army cannot be defeated by one ideal enemy response, with specialised broods supported rather than exposed alone. Larger broods also maintain Synapse links more easily and avoid multiplying the extra losses suffered by several small units in the same defeated combat.

Mechanised Nostalgia

The new Venerable Dreadnought prompts Mark Latham to compare today’s versatile plastic armies with the snap-fit Marines and heavy metal models of his early collections. Interchangeable parts and abundant decoration now let almost every figure become individual, a change he also sees in Orks and the Empire. He ends by recalling his first Blood Angels army as the next month’s release promises another personal return to older hobby enthusiasms.

Mechanised Fury
