Iconography and Heraldry: High Elf Shield

March 2010·p. 100

THE SHORT VERSION

Neil Green develops a shield design from a white ground and grey outline into flames, a starry blue field and a dimensional central icon. Alternating shade and highlight placement makes the symbol and red jewel appear reflective, while dark coals ground the lower edge. The six-stage example demonstrates how one carefully planned design can combine several visual effects without losing its overall heraldic readability.
