Trolls and Two-tone Skin
February 2010·p. 99
THE SHORT VERSION
A Mordor Troll’s face uses lighter flesh below a darker hide, with the join positioned around the eyes and softened according to the sculpt’s texture. Brown and flesh mixtures build the highlights before warm washes enrich the nose, lips and eye area. Darren explains that film-based subjects call for restrained realism, and that the final highlights can reinforce a chosen expression rather than just define anatomy.
