Scorched Buildings
February 2010·p. 97
THE SHORT VERSION
The burnt surface is made by adding sand to still-wet black undercoat and sealing it with another black coat. After the surrounding building is painted, black drybrushing and a lighter grey pass pick out the charred texture. The recipe accompanies a scratch-built ruined foundation assembled from thick card, chapel statues, leftover frames, barrels and stones, demonstrating how texture and salvaged parts can sell severe destruction.
