Painting Horns

February 2010·p. 84

THE SHORT VERSION

Keith Robertson explains that the direction of a horn’s colour progression should contrast with the head or helmet beneath it. Smooth horns use elongated dark triangles and lighter successive layers, while ridged horns rely on selective highlights towards the base. The paired recipes and finished examples show how both texture and the light–dark direction lead the eye back towards the face.
