Painting Elrond’s Skin and Hair
October 2008·p. 90
THE SHORT VERSION
Elrond’s face begins with a warm brown and purple mixture, followed by increasingly light flesh layers and carefully placed white-tinted highlights. Bone dots at either side of the eye form the pupil through the remaining dark gap. His hair moves from a brown-black foundation to bone-tinted brown highlights. Neil stresses multiple thin coats, using the film’s light and shadow as an observational guide.
