Painting Workshop: Citadel Wash
July 2008·pp. 90–94
THE SHORT VERSION
The workshop distinguishes three related uses of transparent colour. Washing gathers shade in recesses, glazing subtly changes or unifies an existing finish, and staining supplies much of the colour itself over a prepared light surface. Damrod, warm skin, yellow armour and a red cloak demonstrate the differences, with expert examples showing more advanced effects. The guide explains why similar materials can produce very different results depending on consistency, quantity and the surface beneath.
