PAINTING·WHITE DWARF 343

Glazing

July 2008·pp. 92–93

THE SHORT VERSION

Thin transparent layers can restore colour after strong highlighting, smooth a transition or create a warmer hue without hiding the work beneath. Examples enrich Orc skin, produce yellow armour and unify a red cloak, while a Griffon shows how a muted glaze strengthens earlier blending. Martin Footitt and Kirsten Williams demonstrate how controlled tinting changes the mood of metal or removes chalkiness from scales. Finish and consistency determine whether the result is subtle or glossy.
