Painting Shields

March 2008·p. 33

THE SHORT VERSION

Two shield sequences create red-painted iron and weathered brass. Both use mixed dark bases, a brown-and-black wash and restored highlights, then green shading for aged metal. The red field is strengthened separately so it stays distinct from the corroded rim and boss. Nearby examples show how morbid symbols and subdued banner colours extend the same visual identity across the army without requiring identical heraldry on every unit.
