Standard Bearer: Archetypes

February 2008·pp. 66–68

THE SHORT VERSION

Jervis explains how familiar symbolic ideas give new designs meaning, using the Dreadnought’s associations with protection and military power as an example. John Blanche’s concepts then combine those ideas with the settings’ established imagery to avoid generic results. The separation of Tomb Kings and Vampire Counts illustrates how refining different kinds of undead horror produces more distinctive armies. Repeated revisions remain creatively useful because each can explore the same underlying ideas in greater depth.
