Painting Masterclass: Huron Blackheart
September 2007·pp. 94–99
THE SHORT VERSION
Fil Dunn paints Huron in subassemblies, beginning with recessed metal and black armour before working through rich red plates and carefully shaded gold ornament. The brighter armour establishes a useful frame for judging the scarred face, whose highlights deliberately preserve a rougher texture. The Hamadrya, liquid-filled vials and scratched weapon edges provide contrasting materials and smaller focal points. Controlled ink washes, thin layers and selective glazes distinguish this display treatment from the simpler squad recipe.
