Blending: Felix’s Cloak

July 2006·p. 49

THE SHORT VERSION

Neil Green builds the large red cloak with multiple thin coats, deliberately returning to the recesses with shading before completing the bright edge highlights. A larger brush helps avoid streaking on the broad surface and repeated Red Ink glazes tie the progression together. Additional recipes cover Felix’s flesh, layered blond hair, striped trousers and worn boots, maintaining definition while allowing the cloak to remain the model’s focal point.
