PAINTING·WHITE DWARF 317

Shading

May 2006·p. 64

THE SHORT VERSION

Diluted paint and historical Citadel inks are placed in the recesses rather than washed indiscriminately over the Giant. Mixing some original base colour into a flesh shade keeps the transition controlled, while different dark mixtures suit the patchwork fabrics and shield details. The peasant’s darker skin and clothing receive a simpler sequence, and the advice warns that pooling ink can spoil the smooth foundation established in the previous stage.
