Into the Valley: A Grudge Fulfilled

January 2006·pp. 29–45

THE SHORT VERSION

A Dwarf warrior surveys the Ogre camp beside a quiet stranger, only recognizing Thorgrim when the army forms for battle. The High King remembers an old insult as his warriors prepare their guns and axes. After victory, he strikes the dead cannon crew of an earlier defeat from the Great Book of Grudges, then enters the newly fallen. The paired passages show vengeance as a continuing duty rather than an end achieved by a single triumph.
