Iron Armour: Drybrushing, Layering and Wash

January 2006·p. 60

THE SHORT VERSION

Three iron recipes reach bright steel through different tools. Drybrushing progresses from black mixed with Boltgun Metal through Chainmail to Mithril Silver, while layering leaves each darker stage in the recesses and draws sharper edges. The wash approach instead starts with a solid metallic coat, shades it with Black Ink and restores the raised detail. Comparing them on mail and plate shows why the choice of method depends on texture and desired control.
