INTERVIEW·WHITE DWARF 311

Sculpting the Black Templars

November 2005·p. 22

THE SHORT VERSION

Dave Thomas, Mark Harrison and Martin Footitt explain assembling the large Crusader frame and defining a range previously represented mainly in artwork. Chains were symbolically important but difficult in plastic, while shorter tabards kept the legs visible and avoided the Dark Angels’ appearance. Compatible parts, medieval helmets and restored Mark IV details support conversion work. Helbrecht, Grimaldus and the Cenobyte Servitors become the sculptors’ culminating examples.
