Modelling the Seasons
November 2005·pp. 104–105
THE SHORT VERSION
Leaves from plastic sprues, lichen and clump foliage make spring and summer trees visibly alive, especially on larger bases. Winter can mean wet mud as well as deep snow: herbs imitate rotting leaves, gloss adds rain and a thin scattering of snow can suggest frost. Autumn relies on warm-coloured leaf litter and exposed roots. The guide recommends forest-floor flock mixtures where ordinary static grass would imply an open plain instead.
