Hobby Supplies: Corroded Metal

June 2005·pp. 138–141

THE SHORT VERSION

Mark Jones uses photographs of real rust to explain why age, wear and exposed metal edges produce different finishes. Worked examples apply stippling, toothbrush flicking, verdigris, combined rust-and-chipping effects and thin washes over metallic terrain. Brown and orange layers build corrosion while selected bright edges suggest recent use; green underpainting beneath bronze creates a different form of oxidation. Examples range from Ogre weapons and Chaos armour to building panels and a warp gate.
