The Ivory Road Journal: Part Two
March 2005·pp. 86–90
THE SHORT VERSION
Reuben Kyte’s caravan climbs into the Ogre Kingdoms under protection that repeatedly proves unreliable. Gnoblars attack while the Ogre guards settle a dispute, a Hunter uses the travellers as bait for an immense cave bear, and breathtaking mountain views offer little compensation for cold, steep roads and dwindling confidence.
An Ogre ambush destroys the wagons despite the mercenaries’ ferocious counterattack. Thrug finally kills the enemy leader with a salvaged cannon, but the survivors are stranded without provisions or a caravan; Kyte’s outwardly comic journal ends with an increasingly serious question about how long the expedition can survive.
