Charge of the Mûmakil
December 2004·pp. 170–189
THE SHORT VERSION
Four players assemble a fifteen-hundred-point-per-side recreation of the fighting before Minas Tirith, with massed Rohirrim, Gondorian reserves and three Mûmakil. The Orc shieldwalls initially delay the cavalry, but a flanking rider reaches the city gate and brings out its knights as the enormous Haradrim reinforcements close in.
Theoden, Eomer, Royal Guard and repeated Heroic Moves keep the beasts pinned instead of allowing devastating Trample runs. A stampede collision compounds Evil’s difficulties, and Húrin delivers the final blow after fourteen turns; the players’ reflections distinguish clever use of heroes from the exceptionally favourable initiative rolls.
