THE SHORT VERSION

The office of Abbess combines exceptional authority with a tradition that its holder should not seek personal power. Historical accounts describe the election of a reluctant leader and later customs of pilgrimage and penance. The disappearance of Sabrina on Habren IV leaves the position vacant in this account. Her fate illustrates the uncertainty and religious symbolism surrounding the Sisterhood’s highest office.
