PREVIEW·WHITE DWARF 289

Blessed Be the Lady

January 2004·pp. 60–63

THE SHORT VERSION

The Bretonnian preview presents its knights through their ideals of courage, honour and faith in the Lady of the Lake. The visual spread culminates in a story of Duke Bohemond attacking Beastmen who threaten a village shrine. His rescue of the site celebrates knightly prowess, but his response to a peasant’s gift also exposes the distance between noble and commoner. The combination introduces the army’s heroic self-image alongside its social hierarchy.
