Painting Mordor Orcs
December 2003·pp. 126–127
THE SHORT VERSION
Tammy Haye explains how ’Eavy Metal captures the film Orcs’ irregular appearance without losing the clarity of small miniatures. Mixing charts provide varied cloth, leather and skin tones from a limited shared palette, and changing the location of each colour keeps repeated models distinct. Leaders use additional tones, while the darker uniformity of Mordor Uruk-hai creates a deliberate contrast. A captain’s pink-grey skin recipe and examples of disguised Hobbits show how the principles extend beyond ordinary warriors.
