CAMPAIGN·WHITE DWARF 285

The Bloodlands Campaign — Part Two

September 2003·pp. 58–61

THE SHORT VERSION

Dylan Owen explains the referee’s role in keeping a map campaign fair, varied and moving. Minor realms create buffers between players, give occasional participants a role and let the organiser fight without controlling a major empire. Advice on map size, terrain, settlement names and secret subterfuge turns the administrative map into a setting where raids, kidnappings and sabotage can produce smaller narrative games.

New rules let empires invade, intimidate or negotiate with minor realms. Unequal battles use an adjusted result scale, and military success can persuade neighbouring territories to submit. Diplomacy spends revenue on envoys and gifts, with competing offers, racial hostility and difficult terrain affecting the outcome. The extension builds on the settlement and revenue system introduced in the previous issue.
