CAMPAIGN·WHITE DWARF 284

A Fantasy Fellowship

August 2003·pp. 134–137

THE SHORT VERSION

Paul Crowcroft creates a campaign for an alternative Fellowship, with a chosen Ringbearer and companion supported by seven other heroes. Replacement characters occupy the original Fellowship’s narrative roles, so selecting a powerful fighter also determines where that fighter will appear later. Separate campaign trees accommodate Hobbit Ringbearers or an Isildur who survives the Gladden Fields and attempts to undo his earlier mistake.

Linked scenarios carry deaths and selected resources forward, while familiar story milestones provide equipment and other bonuses. The tactical advice stresses escape, protection of the Ringbearer and long-term survival over winning every possible fight. A sample Fellowship built around an uncorrupted Saruman demonstrates how a change in the story can shape both the roster and the campaign.
