Black Library: A Tale of Many Tales
November 2025·pp. 106–117
THE SHORT VERSION
A short publishing history connects Inferno!, Warhammer Monthly and the growth of Black Library to the fictional worlds that underpin the hobby. It recalls the Horus Heresy series’ expansion from a small piece of background into a vast shared narrative, and notes how literary characters can eventually return to the tabletop as miniatures.
Black Library staff then explain their personal favourites, ranging from Eisenhorn, Ciaphas Cain and Necron rivalries to Krieg, aerial warfare and the Fall of Cadia. Age of Sigmar choices include Gotrek’s return, Godeater’s Son, Gloomspite and Tahlia Vedra, while Horus Rising, Valdor and Echoes of Eternity represent the Imperium’s distant past. The recommendations focus on character, atmosphere and the variety of perspectives Warhammer fiction can offer.
