Hobby Hangout: Painting Rust and Grime

May 2025·pp. 40–43

THE SHORT VERSION

Dan recommends studying real corrosion before choosing where and how to weather a model. Using a Plagueburst Crawler, the tutorials distinguish rust streaks, gritty flakes, crackled paint, dirty black armour, oily steel and copper patina. Washes serve as technical colour effects as well as shading, and exposed bright metal provides contrast where wear has rubbed a surface clean.
