THE SHORT VERSION

The Tattershields’ broadcast finally reaches listeners, but the first organised response comes from Harrovir’s traitors. Trapped in the comms-locus, the exhausted Kasrkin discover that Orrich once served under the enemy warlord. His knowledge of Harrovir’s impatience enables a gatehouse ambush, and the battle forces him to face former comrades and the violence that still threatens to define him.

Orrich resists surrendering to the same bloodlust as his old sergeant and survives long enough for Gunner to intervene. Eastern-garrison troops arrive with artillery and break the siege, allowing the Kasrkin to acknowledge Orrich as one of their own. Relief is brief: incoming Heretic Astartes ships promise a larger battle, and Orrich answers the news with renewed loyalty to Gavaine and Cadia.
