Stage by Stage: Brown Bases
June 2024·p. 29
THE SHORT VERSION
Four recipes compare rough badlands, dry dust, cracked earth and wet-looking mud. A coloured foundation becomes visible beneath the crackle paint, while varnish encourages and then protects its broken surface. The examples also show how a wash and two drybrush stages can alter the texture’s character without requiring extra scenic components.
