The Rune Axe of Grimnir and Gemstone
May 2024·p. 164
THE SHORT VERSION
Separate grey foundations distinguish the axe’s head and cutting blades before controlled pale reflections simulate metal. Warm gold is shaped with brown-red shadows and yellow highlights, then brought into balance with the adjacent gromril. The gemstone reverses the expected light pattern, placing its bright region below the darker upper surface to suggest light travelling through it.
