The ’Eavy Metal team creates six dioramas that must work both as physical compositions and as photographed magazine covers. Each piece interprets a painter’s personal sense of Warhammer, from grot jousting to desperate human resistance. The resulting mock covers revisit different eras of the magazine’s graphic design, tying the models’ subjects and palettes to appropriate historical logos and layouts.

Simon and Neil stage a duel between two Boingrot Bounderz, inspired by Dave Andrews’ celebrated Bretonnian joust. Reposed limbs and a carefully angled base make the riders interact convincingly. Saturated traditional colours, weathered equipment and distinctly different squigs combine grot comedy with the pageantry of a tournament, while collaboration keeps the project enjoyable.

Drew recreates the excitement of his first Cadian Shock Troops through soldiers charging from a Chimera. Research into vehicle disembarkation gives each trooper a credible role, and a cut-open hull provides the backdrop. Filler, glue and prepared garden soil create convincing mud, turning the heroic composition into a dirty, immediate battlefield scene.
