Jon Flindall opens a Tome Keepers serial with Word Bearers attacking Istrouma while much of the Chapter fights elsewhere. Librarian Ushizar and the young Ilum search the All-vault for the object the invaders want, reading a fallen veteran’s account of an earlier betrayal aboard an Imperial battleship. The recalled battle offers a clue in the enemy leader’s strange words, linking the Chapter’s preserved history to its immediate defence.
